Solberge Hall Hotel
A traditional country house hotel nestled, in the beautiful Yorkshire countryside
City of York
Originally founded as Eboracum, by the Romans, nearly two millenia ago, York was one of two capitals of Roman occupied Britain and to this day York is often still described as the capital of the north, and it's easy to see why. It really is a beautiful city and it's no wonder that it attracts tourists from around the globe.
The City drips history from every crack in the stonework of the City Walls (which date from the Roman occupation of Britain), from every brick in the fine railway station (York is host to the National Railway Museum), and it shines from every piece of stained glass in the windows of the rightly renowned Minster which towers above the City as you approach it by road or rail.
More recent attractions include the Jorvik Viking Centre, where you can experience York as a Viking town and relive the sights, sound and smells of how things were, and York Dungeons where you can experience years of gruesome history with actor led shows taking you through everything from the plague to the story of 'The Highwayman' Dick Turpin.
And, of course, there are the Museum Gardens to stroll around and the Shambles, a well-preserved Tudor street where quaint little shops draw you in for a closer look.
The York Mystery Plays are very popular - but you need to check dates for the plays as they only take place every four years.
