Easingwold War Memorial

Easingwold

Easingwold is just 10 miles south of Thirsk on the road to York and it is a charming little town with a Georgian Market Place. There are some fine buildings in and around the Market Place and plenty of Hotels and Inns, so there is plenty of accommodation in Easingwold.

The right to hold a market was granted by Charles I in 1636, and an outdoor market is held weekly on Fridays. For a small town, Easingwold is blessed with a wide variety of shops and, in particular, antiques shops (there are at least a dozen of these in and near Easingwold). The historic city of York is just 13 miles away and there plenty of things to do in Easingwold and the local area.

Easingwold

Easingwold is a very friendly place with a real "community" spirit, so it is only appropriate that right at the heart of Easingwold is the Galtres Community Centre - based on a grand Victorian house, with new components added including a Sports Hall, and a well-equipped Fitness Centre. You'll find a range of places to eat in Easingwold and nearby Stillington, including Indian, Chinese, traditional pub fayre and the best of English cuisine.

Easingwold hosts an annual Brass Band Contest - and bands come from far and near to take part. Well they would - it's the second oldest brass band contest in the country!

From Easingwold, you can see the famous White Horse of Kilburn on Sutton Bank.
