This traditional country inn is ideal for those seeking the peace and solitude of the countryside but with the comfort, service and hospitality that innkeepers Mike and Margaret Fox have been offering since 1986.

Situated at the gateway to Wensleydale, Thornton Watlass, is one of the prettiest villages in North Yorkshire. It is convenient for the A1 and yet, time has stood still with its lovely old buildings including 'Ashfordly Hall' which features in TV's Heartbeat.

Five real ales and some forty malt whiskies are on offer in the cosy bar where it is impossible not to relax and wind-down next to the open, cheery fire in winter or enjoy your drink in our sheltered garden when the sun is out.

Wholesome lunches and dinners are served in the bar or dining room choosing from traditional pub food or the seasonally changing A La Carte Menu created by Scott our award winning chef.

Special breaks and packages are offered for golfers, fly fishers and racing enthusiasts.
